Leading The Pack: Veitmeier Prevails as Winner In a Great Finish

The adidas Golf - MAXFLI International has been played for two years now. But there's still only been one winner. Defending champion Gordon Veitmeier played another stellar round of golf Saturday afternoon, and held off a late push by Brad Lardon to capture the title and to become the first, and only, two-time winner here in Puerto Vallarta.

"It feels amazing," Veitmeier said afterward. "To be able to win this great event twice is beyond my dreams. I'm just so pleased with the way everything played out."

Veitmeier fired a 6-under par 66 and finished the tournament at 18-under par 270, collecting the winner's check of $15,000 courtesy of adidas Golf.

"To shoot an 18-under the way I did," he said. "I never could have have imagined that coming in. But in the end, I guess that was what I needed to do to win."

By day, Veitmeier is the professional at Nevillewood CC is Pittsburgh, PA. But now it seems his other job is to win tournaments in Mexico.

"I'm getting really comfortable down here," he said. "I've gotten used to these beautiful courses and I'm playing them well."

What may have made the win even more special for Veitmeier is that he played all week with his brother Scott, in addition to Carol and William Kunsman. Considering he and his brother don't get the chance to play together more than a few times each year, that made it extra special.

"To be able to share this with Scott is unbelievable," Veitmeier said. "My whole team was just so supportive all week. They made it a lot of fun for me, and to win overall is just icing on top."
